The Foundation

The Remember Bracero Foundation is a non-profit* organization whose mission is to provide college scholarships and educational access programs to lineal descendants of members of the Bracero Program and to recognize the legacy of Bracero workers.

Bracero Tequila, whose name was chosen to honor the millions that participated in the Bracero Program, initiated the foundation in 2014. Remember Bracero Scholarships will be awarded in August on the basis of a single national competition. In addition to scholarship funds, winners are provided with mentorship and other educational access opportunities.

About the
Bracero Program

The Bracero Program was initiated in 1942 as a temporary war measure to address a labor shortage in the agricultural and railroad industries. By the program’s completion in 1964 an estimated 4.6 million contracts had been awarded, making the Bracero program the largest guest worker program in U.S. history. Twenty-eight states including California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, and Arkansas participated in the program.

Braceros, meaning men that work with their arms, came with dreams of providing better futures for their families in Mexico. Through contributing their brazos, Bracero workers laid the foundation for the agricultural industry and developed the railroad infrastructure needed to allow the United States to thrive for decades afterward.

The Remember Bracero Foundation was created to honor these men and to contribute to their dream of providing a better future for their families.
